Alerts

See every alert Mythic raises across your clients in one feed, and choose which alerts go to Slack or a webhook with rules and channels.

Overview

Mythic watches your clients for you: event contracts, short link uptime, data syncs, incrementality experiments and usage. When one of these checks finds a problem, it opens an alert. The Alerts screen has three tabs:

  • Feed: the alerts.
  • Rules: which alerts go where.
  • Channels: the Slack channels and webhooks alerts are sent to.

Open Alerts from the agency menu to see every client, or from a client's menu to see only that client.

What raises an alert

CheckRaised whenSeverityHow often
Event contractsEvents break their contractWarningDaily, about 08:00 UTC
Event contractsThe client sent no events all dayCriticalDaily, about 08:00 UTC
Link uptimeA short link fails 2 checks in a rowCriticalEvery 5 minutes
Data syncsA sync Mythic manages failsWarningOn each sync
ExperimentsAn incrementality experiment has new outlier daysInfoDaily
UsageYour agency passes 80% of a monthly event quotaInfoDaily
UsageYour agency reaches 100% of a monthly event quotaWarningDaily

Each check decides what counts as broken. Rules only decide who hears about it.

The feed

The feed shows Open alerts by default. Switch to Resolved or All to see older ones. Each alert shows its client, the check, when it opened, and how many times the check has seen it since.

One problem is one alert. It notifies your channels when it opens, and again if it changes, such as a different set of failing contracts or a higher severity. When the check stops finding the problem, the alert resolves on its own. If it comes back later, a new alert opens.

  • Resolve closes an alert by hand. It sends no notification.
  • Investigate opens the chat panel with the alert, so the assistant can look into the cause with the client's data.

Send alerts to Slack or a webhook

Add a channel

On the Channels tab, click Add channel and choose:

  • Slack incoming webhook: paste the webhook URL from Slack (https://hooks.slack.com/services/...).
  • HTTPS webhook (signed): your own endpoint. Mythic shows a signing secret once. Every delivery is signed with it in the X-Mythic-Signature header, so copy it before closing the dialog.

Click Send test to check the channel. A channel that fails 20 times in a row is parked and stops receiving alerts.

Create a rule

Click New alert rule and choose:

  • Checks: which kinds of alerts. Leave it empty for all of them.
  • Clients: the clients the rule watches.
  • Severity: the lowest severity to send. Critical sends only critical alerts. Info sends everything.
  • Send to: one or more channels.
  • Also notify when resolved: sends a message when the problem clears.

Rules can be turned off with their switch, or deleted. Deleting a rule keeps its alerts in the feed.

Email isn't available as a channel yet.

For developers

The feed, rules and channels are on the Alerts API, including the webhook payload and how to verify its signature.
