Insights

Save charts of a client's data as insights, edit their queries, and reuse them on dashboards and in reports.

Overview

An insight is a saved chart: a query over the client's events plus a chart type. The Insight library lists a client's insights. Any insight can be added to a dashboard. Open a client and choose Insights.

Each card shows the chart for its saved date range. Click the sparkle icon on a chart to ask the assistant in the chat panel to explain it.

Create an insight

The fastest way is to ask the assistant, for example: "Save an insight of daily pageviews for the last 30 days, compared with the previous 30." It writes the query and saves the insight.

To write one yourself, click New insight and fill in:

  • Name and an optional Description.
  • Chart: Number, Line, Bar, Pie, Table or Funnel.
  • Query: the data to chart, written as an explore query. The editor starts with an example and checks the query as you type.
{
  "kind": "trend",
  "date_range": { "preset": "30d" },
  "interval": "day",
  "series": [{ "event": "$pageview", "math": "total", "label": "Pageviews" }],
  "compare": "previous_period"
}

A query sets the kind (a trend or a funnel), the date range, the series or funnel steps, and optionally an interval, a breakdown, a comparison and filters.

Edit or delete

Use the menu on a card to Edit or Delete it. Deleting an insight also removes it from every dashboard it is on.

For developers

The query format is documented under Explore, and saved insights are on the Builder API.
