Sessions
Browse a client's visits, watch session replays, and read a step-by-step timeline of what each visitor did.
Overview
A session is one visit to the client's site. The Sessions screen lists them newest first, with a replay and a timeline for each. Open a client and choose Sessions.
The list
Each session shows the visitor, when the visit started, how long it lasted, and the landing page. The dot shows whether the visit was engaged:
- Engaged: more than one page view, at least 10 seconds long, or an event other than a page view.
- Bounced: none of those.
A play icon means the visit was recorded. Use Engagement to show only engaged or only bounced visits.
A session
Click a session to see:
- Session replay: click Play replay to watch the visit. If the visitor had more than one browser tab open, choose the tab to watch.
- Timeline: each page view, click, form interaction, error and custom event in order. The timeline is built from the recording.
- Details: device, pages viewed, duration and traffic source.
- Replay Vision results for the recording, if a scanner has watched it. You can scan the session from here. See Replay Vision.
Copy session link copies a link to this session. Summarize this session asks the assistant in the chat panel to describe what happened.
What gets recorded
Not every visit is recorded. A visit without a play icon was not sampled for recording. Recordings are kept for 30 days. Anything the snippet masks stays masked in the replay. HIPAA clients have no recordings.
For developers
Sessions and replays are on the Data API.
