Scouts and signals

Scouts are scheduled agents that read a client's data on your model key and file reports into an inbox. Signals are the problems Mythic's checks found, which a Signal triage scout groups into reports.

Overview

Open a client and choose Scouts from its menu. The screen has three tabs:

  • Inbox: the reports your scouts filed for this client.
  • Signals: every problem Mythic's checks found for this client, and whether a report covers it yet.
  • Scouts: the scouts that run for this client. Click New scout to add one.

Scouts are for your agency. Client portal users don't see them.

Scouts

A scout is an agent that runs on a schedule, reads one client's data (errors, server logs, events, sessions, short links, destinations) and files one report per problem it finds. Each scout follows a skill:

SkillWhat it looks for
Error trackingBrowser errors and server error logs that cost visitors, leads or tracking
Attribution driftChannels losing credit, such as paid traffic arriving without UTMs or click ids
Conversion deliveryConversions that never reach the ad platforms, and lost credentials
Signal triageGroups the client's open signals into one report per problem. See How triage groups signals
CustomYour own instructions over every surface a scout can read

Scouts run every day, on weekdays or weekly at a time you pick in the client's time zone. Signal triage runs hourly. A client can have up to 10 scouts.

Scouts run on your own OpenRouter, Gemini or Cloudflare model key, so the provider bills you directly. Add a key under Replay Vision, Model keys, for the client or the agency. Without a key, Mythic won't create or run a scout. Each scout's page shows its runs, what each cost and what it read.

The Inbox

Each report is one problem: a title, a summary, a suggested action, a priority from P0 (conversions or tracking broken now) to P4 (informational) and the evidence behind it. Evidence is the exact tool results the scout read, plus any signals it grouped.

When a scout sees the same problem again, it updates the open report with fresh evidence instead of filing another one.

The Inbox shows Open and Snoozed reports by default. Filter by status, priority or scout.

StatusMeaningWhat you can do
OpenNeeds attentionResolve, snooze or dismiss
SnoozedHidden until a date, then it reopens on its ownUnsnooze, resolve or dismiss
ResolvedFixed. If it comes back, the scout files a new reportNothing
DismissedNot worth acting onReopen
SuppressedThe scout filed it for the record, with no action neededRestore or dismiss
  • Dismiss needs a reason. The scout reads it on its next runs for 30 days, so it stops filing the same thing.
  • Snooze lasts up to 90 days.

To get new reports in Slack or a webhook, pick channels in the scout's Delivery step. Each new open report is sent once. Updates and suppressed reports are not sent.

Signals

A signal is one problem a Mythic check found on its own: a new browser error, a destination rejecting conversions, a short link that's down. Every problem that meets a check's threshold becomes a signal. Nothing is judged or filtered, and no model is involved.

Signals, alerts and reports are related:

  • An alert is what a check raises. The Alerts screen shows all of them, including agency-level ones such as usage, and rules decide which go to Slack or a webhook.
  • A signal is an alert about one client, shown on that client's Signals tab. It is the input for Signal triage.
  • A report is what a scout writes after looking into a problem. One report can group several related signals.

A signal resolves on its own when its check sees the problem recover. Replay Vision signals are the exception: they stay open until someone resolves them on the Alerts screen.

What raises a signal

SourceRaised whenSeverityHow often
Browser errorsA new error reaches 3 or more sessions in 24 hoursWarning, critical at 100+ sessionsDaily, about 08:40 UTC
Browser errorsAn error spikes to 10 or more sessions in 24 hours and 3 times its 7-day averageWarning, critical at 100+ sessionsDaily, about 08:40 UTC
Destination delivery5 deliveries fail in a row, or under 50% succeed over 10 or more attempts in 24 hoursWarningHourly
Destination deliveryThe platform rejects the credential (HTTP 401 or 403)CriticalHourly
Event contractsEvents break their contractWarningDaily, about 08:00 UTC
Event contractsThe client sent no events all dayCriticalDaily, about 08:00 UTC
Link uptimeA short link fails 2 checks in a rowCriticalEvery 5 minutes

Browser error signals need history to compare against. A client needs 97 days of error history before new-error signals start, and 8 days before spike signals start.

How triage groups signals

Add a scout with the Signal triage skill to group a client's signals. On the Signals tab, Add Signal triage scout opens the form with the skill already picked.

Every hour, Mythic checks whether the client has a signal no report covers yet, or one that changed severity. If not, nothing runs and nothing is spent. If so, the scout reads the new signals, checks the client's data where it matters, and either adds each signal to the open report that covers its problem or files a new report. Several related signals become one report, so you handle one problem instead of many alerts.

Triage runs on your model key, like every scout, and you pay only for the hours it actually runs. A new signal can take up to an hour to appear in a report.

Without a triage scout, or without a model key, signals stay ungrouped on the Signals tab. They still appear on the Alerts screen.

Use signals day to day

Work from the Inbox. With Signal triage on, the signals behind each report are listed on the report under Signals behind this report.

Check the Signals tab for what isn't in a report yet:

  • The strip at the top shows whether triage is on, and how many signals are not grouped, in a report, or resolved in the last 7 days.
  • Switch between Not grouped, In a report and Resolved, and filter by source.
  • Click a signal to open its details: what the check saw, the report it is in, what the problem usually means and what usually fixes it, and a button to the related screen, such as Errors or Destinations. Turn on Raw to see the check's data as JSON.

You don't need to close signals. Fix the problem and the signal resolves when its check next runs.

All clients

To see every client's scouts at once, open Monitor with no client picked and choose Scouts under Alerts. The screen has three tabs.

Inbox

Open and snoozed reports from every client, most urgent first: P0 at the top, then newest. Each row shows the priority, the client, the report title and first line, the scout that filed it, the status, how many open signals the report covers and how long ago it was filed. Click a title to open the report on the client's own Scouts screen, where you resolve, snooze or dismiss it.

Filter by client, priority, status or scout skill. The list ranks up to the 200 newest matching reports. If more match, a note says so. Pick a client or a priority to see the rest.

Signals

Every client's signals, grouped by client. The client with the most severe signal comes first, and inside each client the most severe and most recent signals come first.

The strip at the top counts the clients with signals not in a report, the signals not in a report, and the open critical signals. When a client has signals but no Signal triage scout, a note says how many and links to Coverage.

Switch between Not grouped, In a report and Resolved, and filter by client or source. Click a signal to open the same details panel as on a client's Signals tab, with the client's name.

Coverage

One row per client that has scouts, open reports or ungrouped signals:

  • Scouts on: the skills with a scout. Paused scouts are gray.
  • Key and last run: whether the model key the scouts run on works (Working, Rejected or No key), when a scout last ran and its last error.
  • Reports and Not grouped: open reports and signals not in a report.

Use it to find what to turn on:

  1. Start on Needs attention. It lists clients tagged No working key (they have scouts that can't run) or Signals, no triage (their signals stay ungrouped). It opens on With scouts or signals when nothing needs attention.
  2. For No working key, click Model keys in the row and add a key for the client, or fix the agency key. When the agency key is rejected, a banner at the top shows its last error. Every client without its own key runs on it.
  3. For Signals, no triage, click the client name. It opens the client's Signals tab, where Add Signal triage scout sets one up.
  4. To add scouts to a client with none, switch to All clients and click Add one in its row.

Privacy

Browser error, destination, session health and Replay Vision signals can contain visitor data. On HIPAA clients these signals show a lock and Restricted (HIPAA) instead of their text and details. If Mythic can't confirm a client's privacy setting, they show Restricted for now. Try again in a minute.

For developers

Scouts, reports and signals are on the Scouts API.
